Annual Fund
Thank you for your interest in the 2009–10 Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising campaign that provides direct and unrestricted support to the school’s operating budget and depends on the financial support of alumni, parents, and friends. While tuition to attend Loomis Chaffee is substantial, it covers only 70% of the actual cost of educating each student. The Annual Fund, which accounts for approximately 7% of the annual operating budget, helps to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student.

Why is the Annual Fund necessary?
While tuition to attend Loomis Chaffee is substantial, it covers only 70% of the actual cost of educating each student. Endowment income and gifts to the Annual Fund make up the difference. Virtually all independent schools are presented with the requirement to raise revenue through an Annual Fund to cover operating expenses.

What does the Annual Fund support?
The Annual Fund directly supports faculty and students because all contributions flow directly into the operating budget. Gifts of all sizes – from $1 to $100,000 – have an impact on daily life on the Island. The Annual Fund helps cover the costs of the school’s academic, residential and extracurricular program, including things like faculty salaries, computer technology, financial aid, classroom equipment, dormitory activities, facility maintenance, cultural opportunities, dining and health services.

How much money does the Annual Fund raise?
In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2009, Loomis Chaffee Annual Fund raised $2,301,226. This amount represents approximately 7% of the school's overall operating budget. Loomis Chaffee hopes to raise $2,500,000 by June 30, 2010.

Does participation matter?
Yes! Every tax-deductible gift makes a difference to the school. Participation in the Annual Fund sends a powerful message that you believe in Loomis Chaffee and its educational program and the teachers, coaches and mentors who are integral to it.

Can I designate my gift?
Donors may indicate what part of the Annual Fund they would like their gift to support: General Needs, Financial Aid, Faculty Salaries, Campus & Facilities, Arts or Athletics. These designations appear on the school’s Annual Fund giving envelope and may be selected as a donor’s area of interest.

What are matching gifts, and how do they help?
Matching gifts are often provided by employers that increase the impact of a donor’s personal contribution. A company with a matching gift program will make a gift to Loomis Chaffee, often matching a donor’s gift dollar-for-dollar. In order to take advantage of this benefit, donors should contact their company’s human resources department. When do I give?
Donors may contribute to Loomis Chaffee at any time. Annual Fund donations makes a direct and meaningful impact on today’s school and today’s students regardless of the timing of the gift. The 2009-10 Annual Fund closes on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Gifts received by midnight on June 30 will count in this year’s effort. Giving early in the Annual Fund year helps to build momentum, and enables the school to save money on mailing costs.
