Music Program

Music is an integral part of life at Loomis Chaffee. More than half the student body participates in the music program, and instruction is offered at all levels of ability — from those just getting started to those with considerable experience. From jazz to chamber music, from voice to strings, there is always an attentive audience for numerous group and individual performances. Concerts take place in our beautiful new 300-seat Hubbard Performance Hall, in the state-of-the-art Hubbard Music Center, or in Founders Chapel, a historic venue at the heart of campus. Private music study is offered in voice, keyboard, bowed strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, guitar, and saxophone.

Play On

Many Loomis Chaffee musicians succeed in state and regional competitive auditions, and many go on to study music at the college level. Others pursue highly successful careers in music and related fields, including famed Yale choral director Fenno Heath '44, Broadway composer Dave Snyder '80, and Rolling Stones contributing editor David Wild '80. Countless others have developed a lifelong love of music that they continue to enjoy after their Loomis Chaffee years. Consider this sampling of notable alumni in music:

Geoff Muldaur ’61, noted folk, blues, folk-rock musician, singer, guitarist and composer of film and TV scores.

Marika Kuzma ’77 is professor of music at the University of California, Berkeley, and a noted choral conductor: The University Chamber Chorus. She is a former director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the St. Lawrence Choir

Adam Larrabee ’92 is a guitarist, performer, teacher, composer; former professor of music at New England Conservatory and currently teaching jazz and classical guitar at Virginia Commonwealth University
